Just What Exactly *IS* a Marauder, Anyway???

MARAUD'ER, n. - A rover in quest of booty or plunder; a plunderer; usually applied to small parties of soldiers.

Ma*raud`er, n. [From Maraud, v.: cf. F. maraudeur.] - A rover in quest of booty or plunder; a plunderer; one who pillages.

By the definitions listed above, it is plain to see exactly what the quest of the Englewood Marauders is.  When applied to the Baseball Diamond, we are a small party of 'soldiers' who are roving around the North Jersey MABL for wins, taking them any way possible from those teams who dare to try to stop us.  In this case, the 'booty' or 'plunder' are lots and lots of runs and wins.

•    I've got news you've all been waiting to hear - that news is after a one season absence, Englewood Marauders Fall Baseball is back!!!

Here are all of the known particulars you need to know about for this coming Fall season:

1.  The ten game season begins Sunday, September 8th against the Paterson White Sox at Herring Field in Englewood.  The remainder of the schedule can be found by clicking here.  I ask that all players report to the field a minimum of one hour before game-time for warm-ups, stretching and fielding practice.

2.  In order to play this season, we have determined that the cost per player is $160 for the season and includes advanced umpire costs.  For all newcomers, this means - you pay one fee and all you ever have to worry about is just showing up;  no collecting $5 per man at the game!

I will be collecting payments in two phases.  Phase one is a minimum payment of $110 due immediately.  Phase two is a payment of $50 which will be due on Opening Day, which completes the payment cycle.  If you can afford to pay the $160 in one shot, please do so immediately as our league entry fee is already past due.

3.  We are holding practice on Saturday, September 7th at 1 PM in Englewood at Dwight Morrow High School.  Please try to make it to the workout as I'm sure we will all be a little rusty from the last time we picked up a bat and can use a little walkthrough before we get started.

4.  Uniform attire for the Fall season is very lax;  teams do not have to match uniforms like they do in the Spring.  Therefore, any baseball attire you have is fine - AS LONG AS IT IS BASEBALL CLOTHING!

Ideally, the league will let you play with baseball pants and a t-shirt, but I prefer that we all try to wear a baseball jersey of some sort so that we look somewhat presentable on the field.

•     Because of our smaller roster size this season, it is more important than ever to keep me informed of any games you will have to miss.  I'll need to make plans accordingly for any of your absences and not letting me know can put us perilously close to forfeiting.  Forfeiting is rather embarrassing, so let's communicate and stay on the same page.

•     If there is any threat of inclement weather for any outdoor events, please stay tuned to this page for more information or you may call the Marauder hotline up until two hours before game-time Sunday mornings at (201) 641-1177 for up-to-the-minute cancellation information.

If any of you have any questions anything whatsoever or cannot make it to a game or mandatory practice for whatever reason, please call me immediately at (201) 641-1177 and leave a message if I am not there.
