Ramirez, AlPositions: IF Date of Birth: 4/11/1960 Height: 5'7" Weight: 165 lbs.
Al joined the Englewood Marauders 1999 along with former Reds' teammates Tom Colantino and Orestes Medina in Spring 1999 to play third base and became the most major part of laying the foundation for today's Marauder squads. As a calming veteran influence on a young fledgling team at the time, Al showed everyone what sacrifices were needed to win consistently with his workman, lunch-pail team-first attitude.
As an 'unofficial' captain of the Marauders, Al was well-respected by his peers and was named to the 1999 MSMBL All-Star Game in Glen Rock by the team. He played a critical role in leading the Marauders to their last most recent appearance in the MSMBL-Lou Gehrig Finals and also was a major contributor to the team's longest consecutive win streak of 11 straight during the Spring 2000 season.
Before joining the Marauders, Al had an extensive career in various other North Jersey Amateur Baseball stops. He played for legendary Coach Fernicola at North Bergen High School, played in the Met League and managed many successful amateur teams as well.
Al retired from the Marauders and the Lou Gehrig League following the end of the 2001 season and was honored on July 29, 2001 where his number 5 jersey was retired by the team. His legacy with the team continues on through numerous time-honored traditions and sayings still associated with the team today, such as the "Kiners Korner" hangout in the parking lot after all home games, etc.
Al's number is currently the first and only number to ever be retired by the White Sox/Marauders MSMBL franchise since its inception in 1992.
• Al had his jersey # 5 retired by the Marauders on 7/29/2001.
• Al was named to the 1999 NJ-MABL All-Star Game in Glen Rock, NJ but was unfortunately unable to attend due to a business function.
• Al finished as the team leader in 1999 in sacrifices.
